Transverse Edger System

Newnes/McGehee's linear edger system features the revolutionary RoboGuide™ Edger. With our integrated optimization and controls, this potent combination is quickly becoming the industry standard. Our linear edger systems feature reduced complexity and high speeds. The unique RoboGuide™ saw mechanism automatically adjusts to the skew of each flitch without pre-positioning. Edgers systems are available with or without reman capability.

Typical specifications:

  • Feed speeds to 1,300 ft./min.
  • Material sizes:
    Lengths: 6' to 28'
    Flitch widths: to 30"
    Thicknesses: ½" to 4"
  • 2-Saw and multiple saw systems
  • Optional top reman chip head

Unscrambler

Unscrambler PhotoNewnes/McGehee Unscramblers deliver a straightened, single layer of lumber to the following system. They are built to handle the most demanding production lines, featuring UHMW chainways, a hinged, jam free "V" notch pocket and full sheeting between chain runs. Many different designs with Straight or Radius back are available to match the application.

  • Hydraulic or electric drives available
  • Toothed bars designed to suit irregular flitches
  • PLC monitoring of pocket fill and auto advance
  • Optional lift skids to accommodate varying thickness
  • Can be installed into any existing product line

Pass/Turn Gate

The Newnes/McGehee Pass/Turn Gate provides positive high piecerate singulation of wane up boards to downstream Edger sequencing transfers. Pass, Turn & Drop-out functions are available in single or double arm versions. The ending rollcase and pass turn headframe are each shipped as a modular unit.

Rotary Infeed

The Newnes/McGehee rotary feeder picks up each flitch from the sequencing transfer and places it onto accelerating rolls to bring it rapidly up to scanning velocity. The rotary feeder is suitable for 1" to 4" thicknesses, up to 24" envelope width and lengths to 24'. The triple arm feeder mechanism is driven by an indexing hydraulic drive.

A Rollcase Feeder is also available as an infeed to the Edger.

RoboGuide™ Edger

RoboGuide™ Edger PhotoNewnes/McGehee's RoboGuide™ Edger eliminates the need for a positioning table in optimized linear edger systems. Inside the Edger, the revolutionary RoboGuide™ system angles the saws, and at the same time moves them along the arbor. This unique ability allows the saws to follow the cutline solution from the Optimizer without pre-positioning.

Finger Tailer

Finger Trailer ImageThe Newnes/McGehee Finger Tailer reliably separates lumber from tailings using data from the Optimizer decision to position the tailer fingers.

Fingers are mounted to chromed shift bars and shifted by a linear positioning cylinder. The finger shift mechanism and conveyor head end are mounted between side plates with no obstruction to falling debris.

Paddle Tailer

As a more economical alternative to the Finger Tailer, the Paddle Tailer has a series of hydraulic cylinder-operated fixed fingers that perform the same function as the linear positioned finger tailer arms.
