Coe Newnes McGehee wins innovation awardSalmon Arm, BC, Canada - April 3, 2006 This award recognizes a leading organization that has demonstrated innovation, leadership, sound business practices and community involvement in the research, development and/or application of science or technology. “We’re honored to be recognized by OSTEC as the Innovative Organization of the Year. Coe Newnes McGehee has a long and proud tradition of introducing new technologies and processes to the lumber and plywood industries,” stated Shawn Casey, Chairman and CEO of Coe Newnes McGehee. “Our people are always looking for ways to do things better and provide more value to our customers.” During the OSTEC judges’ visit to the Coe Newnes McGehee facility in Salmon Arm, dimensions of innovation beyond product technology were presented and discussed. Product development processes and close working relationships with suppliers and key customers contribute to Coe Newnes McGehee’s ability to advance lumber recovery, grade and throughput. Carl Flatman, Senior Research and Development Engineer, was honored as one of the finalists for the Innovator of the Year Award. This award recognizes a leading individual, who has demonstrated innovation, leadership, sound business practices and community involvement in research of science or technology and/or the development and application of science or technology. Carl has been instrumental in developing sensor technologies such as x-ray, microwave, and machine vision for automated lumber grading applications.
