Automated Grading Technology on display at Wood Tech Clinic & Show
Salmon Arm, BC, Canada & Tigard, Oregon USA - March 2006
One of the key messages of Coe Newnes McGehee's display at the Wood Technology
Clinic& Show will be our commitment to automated grading. We pioneered
planermill optimization, and for well over a decade we have been developing
systems to meet the challenges that specific wood characteristics and
specific markets dictate. Today, we can proudly say we offer the widest
range of technology solutions for automated grading. Following are brief
descriptions of the systems you will see demonstrated when you visit our
booth (#1324) on March 22-24, 2006.
Transverse Auto Grading
Our D*TEC BioScan™ is a transverse system for biological defect
and geometric defect dimension scanning and optimizing, to accurately
evaluate wane, knots, splits, pockets, stain, etc. The system utilizes
the latest in high resolution imaging technology and high speed computer
architecture, coupled with our proprietary image pre-processor. At up
to 250 boards per minute, D*TEC BioScan™ boasts the fastest defect
extraction speed, highest image resolution and most comprehensive defect
recognition capability. The system utilizes grading agency rules and adapts
easily for "niche" products.
Linear Auto Grading
Coe Newnes McGehee's Linear High Grader (LHG) planermill optimizer will be front and
center in our booth. Utilizing laser, x-ray and multi-channel vision technology
it will demonstrate our latest advancements in automated grading for knots, warp, stain,
splits, pockets, etc.
BlockPLUS™
To the Veneer/Plywood industry we'll introduce our newest profile and lathe charger
control system. BlockPLUS™ uses new generation laser technology and image processing.
It exemplifies the coupling of technological innovation and extensive lathe experience
to provide a block profile defined with accuracy second to none. This definitive profile
is used by the lathe system to reduce peeling cycle time and increase recovery.
Industry Experts to Speak
An important element to the show is the educational sessions.
Scott Jamieson, editor of Canadian Wood Products magazine, will chair
the Supplier Special session on Thursday, March 23, 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. Panel
members will explore the modern planermill, the "next frontier in recovery
and value gains", and will discuss current "cutting edge" planermill practices
and future operations.
Among panel members will be Geoff Wight, product line manager for planermill
and lumber handling equipment. Geoff is a lumber handling specialist who
has worked in the field for 28 years. He has held various roles in mechanical
engineering, sales and management while employed at Coe Newnes McGehee
over the past 22 years.
Roland Davyduke, Product Line Manager for Coastal Planer and all our controls
systems, will also be on the panel. Roland has been with CNM since 1989, and was involved
in the development of many interesting and challenging products. One of his achievements
was working as controls team leader during development of the highly successful curve
sawing gang that revolutionized the industry and brought motion control the the forefront.
We also invite you to attend the special conference session (#21) BlockPLUS™ Profile
and Lathe Charger Control System. Presenter will be Gary Ely, the lead engineer for this
new system. The presentation is scheduled for Friday, March 25 at 11:00 a.m.
